“David Bowie first saw my designs at a show in London in 1971, and decided to wear them on stage. This picture was taken in my studio in Tokyo in April 1973, when his Ziggy Stardust tour came to Japan.”

Tower of Hercules (of Breoghan) St. Patrick’s Day

There was a father’s brother of Mil, Ith, son of

Breoghan, with them; he was expert and accomplished

in knowledge and in learning. Once on a while

when Ith, of a clear winter’s evening, was on the top

of Breoghan’s Tower, contemplating and overlooking

the four quarters, it seemed to him that he saw a

shadow and likeness of a land and lofty island far away

from him. He went back to his brethren, and told

them what he had seen; and said that he was mindful

and desirous of going to see the land that had appeared

to him.

Then he brings his ship on the sea, and comes

himself with his son, Lugaid son of Ith, and others of

his people in it. They sail towards Ireland…

Estava com eles um irmão do pai de Mil, Ith o filho de

Breogám, douto em sabedoria e hábil observador.

Uma certa clara noite de inverno na que Ith

estava no coruto da torre de Breogám,

contemplando e vigiando os quatro quadrantes,

pareceu-lle ver uma sombra

que semelhava uma alta ilha muito ao longe.

Voltando perto dos seus irmãos,

relatou o que tinha visto e anunciou-lhes

que estava decidido e desejoso de ir ver

a terra que se lhe tinha revelado.

Então levou Ith o seu navio ao mar,

embarcou com o seu filho Lugaid e outros da sua gente

e navegaron cara a Irlanda…
